Born and raised in Huntington Beach, California, Alvaro Venegas, better known as Cricket, has made a profound mark on Latin music as the mastermind behind countless hits in the regional Mexican genre.

Recognized as one of the most talented and influential producers in the game today, Cricket has pushed the regional genre to historic new heights, helping it to claim its position as a leader on the global stage by pioneering the banda rap style and developing what we now know as urban corridos. Fusing regional banda with a rap beat, he has brought the deep sound of the tuba to listeners around the world in an entirely new way, becoming the first to make the instrument resonate through speakers like an 808 bass drum beat, and has turned trumpets and trombones into lead sounds, adding hip hop and rap-style effects and vocals.

With multiple platinum certifications under his belt, Cricket has taken this unique sound to all corners of the world by working with an array of today’s most popular artists, including Santa Fe Klan, Peso Pluma, Gera MX, Luis R Conriquez, Tito Leija, C-Kan, Ohgeesy, Yng Lvcas, Tomas Ballardo, Los Dos Carnales, Aleman, That Mexican OT, Becky G, MC Magic, Dareyes De La Sierra, Abraham Vázquez, and many others.

Most recently, Cricket has collaborated on hits such as the 6x platinum single “Dembow Bélico” (Luis R Conriquez, Tito Doble P, Joel De La P), “De Fresa y De Coco” (Luis R Conriquez, Dareyes De La Sierra, Edgardo Nuñez), “En El Barrio” (That Mexican OT, Lefty Sm), “Kumbia Makabra” (Santa Fe Klan, Tomas Ballardo, Cricket), “El Llanto Del Imigrante” (C-Kan), “Estrella Fugaz” (Raúl Vega, Abraham Vázquez, Neto Peña), and “Por Eso Es Que Me Emborracho” (Lupillo Rivera, Héctor del Norte), among others.

In 2024, Cricket is opening a new chapter in his already outstanding career by beginning his own journey as a solo artist. Although he may symbolically be stepping into new shoes, he will preserve the unmistakable essence that has made him such a widely respected figure in the industry by keeping his Michoacan roots at the heart of his compositions and stage performances. In partnership with Warner Music Latina, he will release his first solo album later this year, which will feature collaborations with a number of prominent stars, including his new single “Polvo Rosa” featuring Santa Fe Klan, Yng Lvcas, and Snow Tha Product, and the forthcoming single “Sin Ti” featuring La Sinfonia.

 I got into music by family, my dad was a singer and my uncles were drummers and they had a band and music was in my life since the day I was born.  La “Musica Mexicana” has been a part of my life everyday, and you can hear it on all my productions, the feeling I put into every drum beat to every melody has a meaning to me.
